POLICE found drugs on a man after he was stopped in Sunderland city centre.
Jonathan Michael Edwards was arrested after officers searched him near Park Lane Interchange on March 23.
Prosecutor Paul Anderson told Sunderland Magistrates’ Court that police also found a white powder, which Edwards admitted was the class C drug mephedrone.
However, as proper forensic tests were not carried out on the recently-banned powder, the 29-year-old was charged with possession and attempted possession. Edwards, from Baker Street, Houghton, pleaded guilty to both offences.
A report from the Probation Service said Edwards suffered from paranoia and had been out of work for most of his life, apart from a two-week stint at car manufacturer Nissan.
He was made subject to a 12-month community order with supervision, and ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 towards court costs.
