Drugs farm discovered

POLICE sniffed out a crime after finding a cannabis farm.

Officers went to the home of Mark Spinks, on Hindmarch Drive, Boldon Colliery, on an unrelated matter in September.

While there, they smelled cannabis and found three plants with lighting equipment in an upstairs room and another plant in a greenhouse.

Spinks, was arrested and admitted producing the drugs for his own use. The 31-year-old, who now lives in Roker Avenue, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to producing a Class B controlled drug at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

He was fined £300 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
