A DRIVER crashed into a car which had a baby in the back.
James Boslem then fled the scene, leaving the distressed mother sobbing at the side of the road near Washington.
Sunderland magistrates were told the 49-year-old’s Ford Mondeo slammed into the woman on the A1231 westbound carriageway after she stopped at a roundabout.
Her 13-week-old baby was strapped into a car seat and escaped injury. He pleaded guilty by post, but the case was brought before the court.
Boslem, of Meadow Lane, Dunston, Gateshead, admitted failing to stop after an accident and driving without due care and attention.
Magistrates fined Boslem £70 for failing to stop and £35 for careless driving.
His driving licence was also endorsed with six penalty points.
