Police have released an e-fit image of a man they want to speak to after a woman was sexually assaulted on a train.

The attack happened on Thursday, 8 October between approximately 7.30am and 8.15am on a train between York and Durham.

The victim, who is 26-years-old and from York, boarded the train at York and sat next to the window. A man came and sat beside her and attempted to engage her in conversation before kissing her on the cheek. He then inappropriately touched her breasts.

PC Amanda Timlin, of British Transport Police, said: “The victim, who is receiving counselling following the incident, was brave enough to come forward and report this incident and we have managed to produce an e-fit of her attacker. If you recognise him please contact us.

"He has been described as Indian with a number of moles on his face and he was wearing a grey or black business suit.

“No one should have to experience unwanted sexual behaviour such as this. We take all reports of this nature seriously and we will do everything in our power to support the victim and trace the man responsible.”

Anyone who recognises the man can contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference PSUB/B2 of 27/11/2015. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
