DETECTIVES have been called in to investigate an alleged death threat hand-delivered to former Sunderland AFC star Anton Ferdinand.

Officers have reportedly urged the footballer to fit a panic alarm at his home after reading the letter, which was sent to Queens Park Rangers last week.

Police were so alarmed by the graphic content of the letter that they advised Ferdinand and other close relatives to take precautionary measures.

The threat comes amid allegations the 26-year-old was racially abused by Chelsea skipper John Terry at a match two weeks ago.

A police spokesman said: “We can confirm we are investigating an allegation of malicious communication.”
