Danger driver jailed for six years over hit-and-run death of Gavin Bolam

A former soldier who killed a devoted South Tyneside dad in a hit-and-run horror smash has been jailed for six years.

Gavin Bolam died after he was struck by a Mercedes that mounted the pavement at Victoria Road West, Hebburn, in the early hours of April 9.

The 57-year-old, who lived in the town, had been walking home from a night out with his best friend when he was hit.

Today at Newcastle Crown Court Allan Hale, 39, of Appleby Gardens, Beacon Lough, Gateshead, admitted causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, two charges of failing to stop after a road accident and failing to provide a specimen.

Judge Penny Moreland also banned him from the roads for six years.
