A HOODED trio of cyclists could hold vital information into a bungled robbery outside a Sunderland supermarket.

Detectives have released CCTV images of three men they are hoping to trace after a security guard was knocked to the ground beside the cash machine at Lidl in Roker.

A bike left at the scene was also seized by officers who today released a picture of it in a bid to trace the owner.

The botched crime happened at 11.54am on Wednesday, December 12, when two security guards were filling the supermarket’s cash machine in Roker Avenue.

They were approached by three men who knocked one of the security guards to the ground and tried to make a grab for the money.

But despite their efforts, the men ran off empty handed in the direction of Bright Street.

The security guard was not badly injured.

Police appealed for information through the Echo at the time of the incident but today made a reappeal in a bid to catch those responsible.

A CCTV image of the three men has also been released. The men are described as being in their 20s, all wearing hooded tops. One of the men was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, the other two men were wearing black tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on the 101 non-emergency number, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
