Crackdown on Sunderland phone thieves

CCTV of phone theft from Sunderland station

CCTV of phone theft from Sunderland station

SUNDERLAND phone thieves are being hunted as part of a new operation launched by British Transport Police.

Operation Impact aims to crackdown on the theft of passenger property from trains and stations.

Officers are asking for help to identify a number of suspected thieves caught on camera, and have released a gallery of their most wanted.

Among them are two female passengers, who may have information after a phone was taken from Sunderland station. Police said the phone was stolen after accidentally being left on a seat at the station on Tuesday, August 7, last year. Police believe the two females pictured may have been travelling to Seaham.

Chief Inspector Glen Alderson said: “So look at these photos carefully – you may know the person who has committed it.”

Anyone with information should contact police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40, quoting background log B2/NEA of 08/03/2013 and the reference number on the image, or text the non-emergency line on 61016.
