A COUPLE have told of their horror after waking to hear burglars raiding their home.
Matt and Elaine Dossett had just settled down for the night when they were woken by the sound of glass being shattered.
By the time the couple got downstairs a cabinet, in the porch of their home containing keys, had been ransacked and their new car had been stolen.
The raid happened at their home in Sunderland Road, East Boldon, at about 11.45pm, on Friday.
The couple’s car, a new dark grey Skoda Octavia estate, was taken.
Mr Dossett said: “We heard the smash, but by the time we ran downstairs the car was gone. It all happened within seconds.
“We’d only had the car a month and there is a four-month waiting list for it, so there aren’t that many of them about.”
The Skoda Octavia Vrs diesel estate’s reg is MK64 GVL. It has black 18in alloy wheels and its unique chassis number is TMBKK7NE6F0047199.
The car contained a child’s maxi cosi axis seat and a red child’s buggy.
Mrs Dossett said: “This is such a nice quiet area. I never thought we would have been broken into and to have our car stolen. It’s a family estate car. It’s not as though it’s a sporty car.
“I just can’t believe someone would take it. It’s also frightening to think someone might have been watching me, as it happened within 10 minutes of me going to bed.”
Police are checking CCTV footage from the area and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them on 101 ext 69191, quoting log number 1502 of 17/10/14, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
