Elaine, 54, a human resources business partner, was left without transport and now faces the prospect of a hike in her insurance premiums as well as a costly excess.

Partner Dave Cowan, 52, said: “We are both really stressed out. We both work very long hours and the police cannot prove anything, and say there is nothing they can do.”

It is not the first time the couple have had problems with their vehicles left in their allocated parking space.

When Elaine’s daughter was staying a year ago, her car window was smashed, and both Dave and Elaine have had their vehicles’s paintwork scratched in the past.

The pair are now thinking about selling up and moving out of their home of 10 years.

“Elaine feels as though she is being pushed out of her home,” Dave, a civil engineer, said. “We are thinking of moving.”

Police confirmed the attack took place between 6.30pm on Sunday, and 6.50am on Monday.

Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101.
