CCTV pictures have been released as police try to track down a thief who stole a bag from a passenger who got on a train at Durham station.

Officers have today released CCTV images of a man they believe will have information which can assist the investigation into the incident which took place at about 9.17pm on Saturday, July 12.

Pc Bradley Williams, the investigating officer, said: “The victim, a 27-year-old man from Northumberland, boarded the 21.46 Durham to Alnmouth service at Durham and placed his yellow North Face rucksack in a luggage rack on the train.

“Two men are seen boarding the train at Durham.

“One of the men is then captured on CCTV leaving the train at Newcastle carrying a bag matching the description of the victims.

“Enquiries have been ongoing to identify the person responsible for the theft but to no avail.

“I am now appealing for anyone who recognises the man in these photographs to come forward as I believe he will have key information which can assist this investigation.”
