VANDALS smashed windscreens and stole items from cars in Houghton on Sunday night.

Between 8pm on Sunday evening and 4am on Monday, five vehicles were targeted on the Mulberry Park Estate.

A Vauxhall Movano, Volkswagen Touran, Nissan Micra and two Renault Clios were attacked, with items including a sat nav, radio and a pair of sunglasses stolen from the Touran and Clios.

Sgt Les Goodliff said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries into these offences which happened in the early hours of bank holiday Monday.

“We have uniformed officers on patrol to reassure local people.

“I’d urge people who saw anybody acting suspiciously around the Mulberry Park Estate around that time to get in touch.

“I would also like to remind drivers to remove any valuable items from their vehicle to deter this type of crime from repeating itself in the future.”
