BRAZEN thieves stole a family caravan from the driveway of a Wearside home in broad daylight.
The pair, dressed in high-visibility vests, knocked at the house in Station Road, Penshaw, to check if anyone was home and chatted to a neighbour before linking the caravan up to a 4x4 vehicle and driving off.
But the owners and police hope the thieves’ noisy getaway through Shiney Row could help lead them to the culprits.
As they left the house, the thieves damaged the caravan’s passenger side light, leaving the fitting hanging out, as they headed along Wensleydale Avenue at speed.
It is believed they also negotiated Shiney Row roundabout as they towed away the white Hobby Excellent Easy European caravan, which has a single axle and is decorated with a light blue stripe along its paintwork.
A red 4x4 was seen acting suspiciously in the area the evening before and on the day, with a green 4x4 possibly used to take the caravan.
Both men were described as tall.
One had blond, surfer-style hair and was in his 20s, while the other had short dark hair and in his 30s.
The incident happened at 2.20pm on Wednesday.
