Car thieves hit 10 vehicles in Sunderland

DRIVERS in Wearside are being reminded to remove possessions from their cars after a spate of break-ins.

The warning comes after 10 cars were broken into in Sunderland overnight between Thursday and Friday.

Thieves broke into cars on Hillcrest, Foxcover Lane, Gardiner Road, Sandalwood Square, Gleneagles Square, Aldershot Road, Charter Drive, Gartland Road and Augusta Square. Stolen items includ iPhones, sat navs, loose change, clothing and a tub of protein.

Chief Inspector Dave Willett, from Sunderland Area Command, said: “We have officers patrolling the area to target thieves. However, we’d urge motorists to think about security.”
