POLICE discovered the remains of a cannabis farm after raiding a house in Sunderland.

Residents say two riot vans and a police car were spotted in the street in Eden Vale before the operation took place.

No cannabis plants were found at the terraced house in Eden House Road, which is converted into four flats.

However, equipment needed to grow the Class B drug was discovered in one of the properties on Friday morning.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police confirmed a search warrant had been executed and the “remnants” of a cannabis farm had been found.

A cannabis farm in nearby Vale Street East sparked a major blaze in January 2009, as reported in the Echo.

And a property in Burnville Road was severely damaged when a cannabis farm caught fire in December 2008.
