Brother of “Black Widow” victim blasts breast op

Christina Button

THE brother-in-law of “Black Widow” killer Christina Button has hit out after reports she is to undergo a £5,000 breast reduction op.

Fred Button said it was “unfair” the woman convicted of murdering his brother should be allowed surgery when others had to wait years for major operations.

Button, locked up for the murder of husband George, is said to be having the treatment after shedding weight during a crash diet at Drake Hall Prison, Staffs, where she is serving life with a minimum of 14 years.

Button, 54, dubbed “the Black Widow”, was locked up 10 years ago for plotting her husband’s killing for £450,000 in life insurance.

It is claimed she is due to have the operation on the NHS.

Fred, who was best man at the couple’s wedding, said: “When I heard about this, I thought it all seemed very unfair.

“It’s the taxpayer who’s going to have to pay for all of this.

“What I don’t understand is how she can get this, which is essentially a cosmetic procedure, when there are thousands of people on huge waiting lists for very serious operations.”

Retired Fred, 68, of East Rainton, says he is kept in regular contact about the case by probation services.

“However, I didn’t know she had moved prisons,” he said.

Button plotted with her nephew Simon Tannahill, then 20, to kill husband George. He was struck six times with a blunt instrument as he walked his dog near their home in West Rainton.

She had run up debts of more than £200,000 before she masterminded the murder.

Tannahill battered his uncle around the head then left his body by the roadside to make it look like a road accident.

Last year, Button’s sister, Susan Miller, criticised a campaign group called Innocence Network UK which wanted her conviction reviewed.
