THIEVES have been targeting cars with valuables left on display.
A spate of car break-ins have taken place across Sunderland during the last few weeks, which police claim could have been avoided.
Officers believe the cars have been targeted because opportunist thieves have spotted expensive goods inside.
Neighbourhood Inspector Mick Hall said: “An empty car with valuables left on display is far more appealing to a thief than one where they’ve been removed out of view.
“Most people wouldn’t dream of leaving their wallet or cash clearly on show in an empty car, but leaving items such as sat navs is essentially the same.
“It only takes a few moments to put them in your bag and take them with you and could help reduce the risk of being broken into.”
