Boy hurt in hit-and-run accident

A SCHOOLBOY was left unconscious after a hit-and-run collision.

The seven-year-old suffered minor injuries when he was struck by a dark-coloured Ford Focus, in Roker yesterday.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, where he was treated for minor cuts and bruises, including a graze on his chin.

Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which took place at about 8.30am, at the junction between Givens Street and Cooper Street.

A 32-year-old man who lives nearby said: “My wife rushed to the scene, the boy was face down and knocked out cold for 15 minutes and until rapid response arrived.

“The child suffered cuts and bruises to forehead and was unable to remember what had happened.”

Anyone with information about the crash can call police on 101.
