POLICE have recovered the body of a pensioner from a lake in Sunderland.
Officers were called to the lake at Gilley Law, just off North Moor Lane, at 6.25am yesterday.
The police team discovered the body, thought to be a woman in her 70s, before taking it away for further examination.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “We were called to the lake, close to Silksworth Ski Slope, after reports a body had been sighted.
“Officers are satisfied there has been no third party involvement in the incident.”
The identity of the woman has not been released.
A report is now being prepared for Sunderland Coroner in a bid to determine the circumstances leading up to the death of the pensioner.
Residents living nearby say they were “shocked” by the discovery.
