FIRE swept through a former social club for the second time in less than a month.
The blaze, which could be seen for miles, broke out at the derelict Peterlee Sports and Social Club in the early hours of Christmas Eve.
Fourteen fire crews tackled the flames, which went on to destroy the building.
The fire comes less than a month after vandals pushed a seat up against the front wall of the boarded-up building in Ellison Road before setting it alight.
Investigations are under way into the cause of this week’s fire.
Crews from Peterlee fire station were called to the scene at 1.20am but remained at the scene well into Christmas Eve. Police also attended the incident.
