A MAN and woman have denied an attack that left a teenage girl with horrific facial injuries.

Kyle Calvert, 23, and Faye Robson, 19, appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court charged with assault ocassioning actual bodily harm on 17-year-old Karrina Bates in January.

Karrina, from Marley Pots, was left swollen and scarred after she was allegedly assaulted at a house in Fulwell earlier this year.

It is claimed that Calvert of Swan House, High Street East, Sunderland and Robson of Fulwell Road, attacked the former Red House School pupil after an argument.

Robson is also charged with trying to contact Karrina via Facebook to discuss the case.

Prosecuting, Glenda Beck told the court that Robson held a knife to the victim’s throat saying “shall I do it?” before forcing the knife into the injured party’s legs and making slashing marks down her legs.

The pair were released on conditional bail to appear back at the magistrates’ court on August 22.

They were told they must not enter Old Mill Road, in Sunderland, or contact the victim in any way, directly or indirectly.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at 4am on Wednesday, January 5, at an address in Fulwell Road.

It is alleged that Karrina was left with a broken nose, black eye, stab and slash wounds to her right leg and a badly-bruised back.

As she recovered in hospital, Karrina’s mum, Leona, 35, said she was shocked when she saw how injured her daughter was.

She said: My guts were turning. I just couldn’t grasp it.”
