ARSON has been blamed for a second stables fire on Wearside in less than a week.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the door of stables in John Street, Fence Houses, was set alight between 8.15pm and 9.55pm last night.

There were horses inside the building, but none were injured in the incident and the fire was quickly extinguished.

The comes just two days after five horses died in a suspected arson attack on in Penshaw.

The cause of the blaze at Station House Stables, in Coxgreen Road, in the early hours of Monday is still under investigation by Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.

Well-wishers have donated more than £2,000 to a “Help for Station House Stables” fund.
