Armed robbery at Sunderland shop

A ROBBER threatened shop assistant with a knife in a raid at a Sunderland store.

Police are hunting two suspects after the robbery at Shah Stores in Fordland Place on Sunday.

The incident happened 4.20pm and 4.25pm after two men were seen hanging around the shop.

After about ten minutes, one went inside and approached the counter demanding cash, saying he was carrying a knife.

The staff member handed over the cash before the man made off from the scene in the direction of Hylton Road and Ford Estate.

He is described as white, approximately 5ft 10ins tall, of average build. He was wearing a black jacket with the hood up which was also covering his face and grey jogging bottoms.

The second man he was in company with before the robbery is described as white and was wearing a yellow, blue and red jacket.

The member of staff was shaken but unharmed as a result of the incident.

Enquiries are continuing today and police are keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone who recognises the men from their descriptions.
