Appeal after woman’s handbag snatched in Sunderland

POLICE are appealing for information after a woman had her handbag snatched in Sunderland.

The theft happened at 6.40pm, on Pann Lane, next to St Mary’s Church, on Bridge Street.

The 55-year-old woman was getting into a car when a man approached her from behind and stole her bag containing a quantity of cash.

She was left shaken but unhurt by the incident.

The offender is described as white, 6ft tall and of slim build. He was wearing a short black jacket, black skinny jeans, black trainers and a Russian-style hat with fur on the inside. He’s believed to be aged in his mid-teens to early 20s.

Anyone who witnessed the theft or recognises the man from his description is asked to contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 1008 02/01/14, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
