AN air rifle has been listed as one of a number of items stolen from a home in Sunderland.

The 30-year-old brown and black BSA air rifle with a telscopic sight was taken from an address in Beldene Drive.

Other items include a Stihl saw and bottles of alcohol.

The burglary happened between 2pm on Sunday November 30 and 8.30pm on Monday December 1.

Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Laverick said: “It is more than likely these items have been stolen to be sold on and as the rifle is fairly distinctive I’d ask any second hand firearm dealers who are offered it for sale, or may have already been offered it for sale to contact us.

“If anyone has information about the burglary, or about who may be responsible, we also want to hear from.”

Northumbria Police is currently carrying out Operation Soundwave aimed at targeting burglars.

Insp Laverick added: “It is distressing being broken into, it can be expensive, unsettling and a huge inconvenience. We launched this initiative to help reduce the number of burglaries. In addition to ensuring residents are given crime prevention advice we are carrying out enforcement activity throughout the area to disrupt burglars, arrest them and put them before the courts.

“Additional patrols are being carried out throughout the area to reassure residents.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191. Callers are asked to quote log number 341 011214 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
