A TELEVISION wildlife expert flew in to open a new Durham animal centre.
Children’s favourite Michaela Strachan officially opened the new attraction and theatre at Adventure Valley in Durham City.
The Springwatch presenter met visitors, cut the ribbon on the Indoor Farmyard animal centre and performed her Really Wild Adventures family show to launch the Showtime Theatre – both part of a £250,000 investment which also incudes a Wild West-themed indoor soft play area and reptile enclosure.
Michaela said: “I’ve really been looking forward to coming. It looks like a young child’s paradise, there’s so much to do.
“It’s great to open the Indoor Farmyard, which is bound to be a big hit with the kids.
“My children’s show is all about adventures I’ve had whilst filming wildlife.
“It’s in poem form and tells you how to do polar bear dentistry, why you should never try to outspit a spitting cobra, and what bonnetheads, nurses and soupfins have in common!”
Marco Calzini, owner of Adventure Valley, in Brasside, was delighted with his guest.
He said: “We are thrilled that Michaela was able to join us to officially open our new facilities.
“Michaela’s love of animals is well known, and her spirit of adventure echoes our own philosophy of making adventure part of a child’s, and indeed of everyone’s, life.
“Her show was the ideal event to launch our new Adventure Valley Showtime Theatre space, which will host daily family entertainment shows throughout the summer.
“Since we opened four years ago, we have continued to invest each year in new attractions and this year we have invested more than £250,000 on the new indoor facilities which Michaela was officially opening.
“The new attractions all add up to a significant increase in our indoor facilities, which I am sure our visitors will enjoy.”
