A PREGNANT mum had to flee her home after her washing machine caught fire.
The mum and her eight-month-old baby were able to escape the first-floor flat unharmed after the blaze broke out.
It is believed that a fault in the washing machine caused the fire.
Fire crews were called to the block of flats at Taunton Square, in Thorney Close, Sunderland, at about 12.25pm yesterday.
The washing machine in the kitchen was damaged by fire. The remainder of the flat was not damaged.
Fire fighters were also called to a blaze in a two-storey block of flats in Red House, Sunderland.
The door to the first-floor flat was damaged after the fire broke out at about 8.50am yesterday.
The rest of the property was affected by smoke and heat after the fire in Runcorn Road.
Firefighters used hose reel and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
