AT LEAST five cars were involved in a rush hour collision on the A19 today, leaving tailbacks of miles.
The accident happened just before 8.20am on the northbound carriageway at Hylton Bridge, just a short distance from the A1231 turnoff at Washington.
Some of the vehicles struck the central reservation, with those cars later moved to the left-hand lane as police helped clear the scene.
With that lane blocked, traffic slowed and was backed up as far as the A690.
Police say no injuries have been reported from those involved in the smash.
