THE best in local arts, crafts and food will be on offer as Sunniside is taken over by the Makers Market.

More than 18 stalls will set up shop in Sunniside on Saturday for the event, which runs from 10am until 4pm.

Visitors will be able to browse stalls featuring glass, ceramics, photography, fine art and fashion accessories.

Local independent bars, restaurants and cafés have also joined forces with Sunderland’s creative scene and will be on hand to provide food and drink.

Among the businesses taking part are Casa Rio and The Place, in Sunniside, and Serendipity and Kafen, in Frederick Street.

It’s the latest event from Sunderland Live, a spin-off from the council’s events team.

Chris Alexander, chief operating officer of Sunderland Live, said “The Makers Market is an exciting opportunity to showcase local creative makers as part of our Summer in the City programme. The event will provide another reason for people to visit the city centre and hopefully take advantage of some of the shops, cafes and restaurants whilst they are there.”
