Court round-up: Restraining order issued by Sunderland magistrate

The following cases have been dealt with at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

Robert Lund, 20, of Elmwood Avenue, Marley Potts, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to an assault, on September 22. He was fined £150 and was told to pay compensation of £100, a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £150. A one-year restraining order was made, banning Lund from contacting his victim, go to her address, or post comments about her on social media.

Gavin Thompson, 31, of Talley Court, Washington, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath when suspected of having driven a vehicle, on November 7. He was fined £200 and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £80. He was banned from driving for three years.

Paul Cairns, 29, of Kirkhill, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to resisting a police officer and being drunk and disorderly in Ryhope Road, on November 19. He was fined £100 and was told to pay compensation of £100.

Thomas Hindmarch, 25, of Pennycross Road, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident, on August 15, last year. He was driving a BMW320D on Palgrove Road, when an accident occurred in which personal injury was caused to a woman along with damage to another vehicle. He was fined £250 and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £25 and costs of £50. He was banned from driving for three months.

Tony Sharp, 28, of North Avenue, Washington, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He drove an Audi A5 on Washington Road, Usworth, on January 31, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion in his breath was 41 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit being 35.

He was fined £140 and was told to pay victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £60.00 to the Crown Prosecution Service. He was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 12 months.
