Could you be sitting on a fortune?

Postcard of Holmeside in the 1920s

Postcard of Holmeside in the 1920s

FANCY getting a price for that family heirloom that has been cluttering up the attic for donkey’s years? Well, now’s your chance.

National auctioneer Warwick and Warwick is holding a free valuation day on Wearside next week, which is open to anyone.

A spokesman said the firm had made several visits to the region before and had always been delighted with the response.

It was not always the most obvious items which turned out to be valuable, he said, and it was possible that people could be sitting on a nest egg without even being aware of it.

He added: “Many people do not realise that they have possessions of value, especially postcard collections, where the black and white photographic views can fetch from £5 to £50 each, especially if there is a close-up an early omnibus or a traction engine.

“Colliery cards are especially valuable. Coin collections are also fetching high prices at present, especially those made of gold, the value of which has rocketed in recent months.”

Warwick and Warwick will have experts in coins and banknotes, stamps, medals and militaria, postcards and cigarette cards, diecast toys and models and model railways at the valuation day. It will be held at the Marriott Hotel, Queens Parade, Seaburn, on Wednesday from 9am to 1 pm.

The company is also able to arrange home visits for anyone whose items are too large to take along on the day. They can be contacted on 01926 499 031.
