A journalism graduate is making headline news herself – to show that true beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

Sophie Hardy is aiming to be a role model for curvy ladies after scooping a spot in a plus-size feature in national fashion magazine Cosmopolitan.

There is more to being beautiful than looks alone

The delighted 24-year-old, from Horden, is one of a trio of female readers selected for the CurveEdit feature in the October edition of the magazine, which hit the shelves this week.

Cosmopolitan launched a search on social media to show that plus-size women can be successful and stylish – and they soon discovered that Sophie fitted the bill. Miss Hardy, who works as a digital marketer, took part in a two-day photoshoot after receiving the surprise news she had been chosen.

She said: “I felt like a proper model on the photoshoot.

“It was just an impulse decision to enter the competition. It was a surprise to win. My nana has already bought four or five copies.

“It was surreal to see myself in the magazine.

“It was a dream come true for me when I received the phone call that I’d been selected to take part in Cosmo’s latest campaign.

“I’ve been reading Cosmo for as long as I can remember, so to be recognised as a successful and stylish reader is a great personal achievement.”

Miss Hardy, who is a size 16, is eager to drive home the message that success and style are not merely dictated by your dress size – and that beauty is far more than skin deep.

She added: “I’m also hoping this opportunity will highlight that there is more to being beautiful than looks alone – it’s all about how you feel on the inside and how that comes across.”
