Travellers are facing long delays after an overhead line fault caused Metro trains on a busy rail route to be suspended.

Train services were halted for about 45 minutes between Haymarket and Heworth this afternoon due to the overhead cable problem.

Services are now back up-and-running - but travellers are facing delays of 45 minutes on the busy final shopping weekend before Christmas.

A Metro spokesman tweeted: "Trains are now running between Haymarket and Heworth but with up to 45 mins delays due to problem with the overhead line.

Bus replacement services were put in place while services were suspended.
