East Durham Home organised Heat the Streets drop-in meetings at the end of February, with officers visiting the Horden area to talk to tenants on the different ways they can run their home more efficiently. Advisers were in the neighbourhood with a quick energy health check and also get advice on accessing any benefits they may be entitled to. They also heard about available furniture packages in collaboration with County Durham Furniture Help Scheme, and free employment and digital inclusion training with advisers from County Durham Housing Group.

East Durham College is searching for former students of its Durham-based, land-based Houghall campus. The campus has had a number of names over the years, Durham County School of Agriculture, Durham Agricultural College, Durham College of Agriculture and Horticulture and Houghall College before being merged with East Durham College in 1999. Ahead of the opening of the new £12million redevelopment of the Houghall campus, the college is putting together a history of the campus. The college already has a sizable archive of photos and articles related to the Houghall site, dating back to 1938, but is looking for any former students or members of staff who may have further memorabilia. The college’s marketing department has set up a Facebook group, Durham Agricultural College-Houghall – Past & Present, for anyone to join. The marketing department will be posting archive photos and is encouraging people to join and share their own photos and memories.
