Grangetown and Ashbrooke - Down Your Way

Everyone is welcome to a musical evening with R & R entertainment in St Aidan's Church hall, Ryhope Road, Grangetown, this Friday, starting at 7pm. There will also be a raffle and quiz with hot drinks and snacks provided, but take along a plate of food for the common table. Cost is £3.50 and the proceeds will go towards a new cooker for the church hall. Contact Fr Peter Bostock for further details on 0191 514 3485.

A well-attended meeting of the Thornholme Residents’ Association was held last week at Ashbrooke Sports Club with Paul Baker in the chair. Also in attendance were councillors Iain Kay and Bob Price (Millfield ward) and Peter Wood (S.Michael’s), a representative of the Northumbria Police neighbourhood team, plus council officers Alan Caddick, Head of Housing, and Craig Wilson, Customer Relationship Officer. Various issues were discussed including planning; student accommodation; fly-tipping; the condition of some properties in the area; police crime statistics and impending changes to neighbourhood council services. The next meeting will be held at the same venue on Monday, May 23, beginning at 6 pm.

Wednesday, May 4, is a diary date for those carers, who would welcome some time to relax and share time to socialise and enjoy the company with others in a similar situation. They are extended a warm invitation to come along to St Nicholas Church hall, Queen Alexandra Road, from 10.30am until noon. Stephanie Clark, (0191 5226444), is the lead for a new council-funded project, which sees the church hall being used over the next 12 months as a welcoming “Community Connector Hub” for people in and around St Michael’s Ward. Stephanie will be working closely with ward councillor Michael Dixon, (0191 5517090), and council officers. See the telephone numbers provided if you would like to find out more details or just turn-up on the day. You will be most welcome.
