Coins and cash snatched as burglars raid house

A collection of commemorative coins were among the haul by thieves as they struck a house.

Police are appealing for information after jewellery and cash were also stolen in the burglary. The break-in happened at a house in Sunderland Street, Houghton, between 8.30pm on Saturday and 11am Sunday.Burglars broke in and stole cash and commemorative coins.

The coins stolen were Royal Family commemorative coins from 1952 and 1977.

They include a Prince Charles and Princess Diana commemorative coins; commemorative Westminster coins; a gold men's pocket watch - engraved with initials and a gold wrist watch engraved with Glendale Club. Officers are carrying out inquiries into the theft and are appealing for witnesses.
