Cleadon Village History Society meets tonight in the Old Schoolroom at 7.15pm. The speaker will be Andrea Lang who will talk about The Jarrow Crusade. Everyone is welcome to come along.

Tomorrow the PCC for All Saints’ Church will meet in the Chapter House, next to the church, at 7.30pm

This year’s Christmas Tree Festival opens this weekend in All Saints’ Church. The preview evening, on Friday, will include entertainment from Compass Acapella, the Cleadon-based close harmony men’s choir, as well as mince pies and mulled wine. The Fayre, on Saturday, will be opened at 10.30am by the Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside and the Choir of Cleadon Village Primary Academy. There will be stalls including organic produce, gifts, cakes, crafts, preserves and honey with a bottle tombola and a chocolate tombola. Morning coffee or tea will be served in the Old Schoolroom, followed by lunches of soup, sandwiches and cake. The Grand Draw will take place at 1pm. Tickets are still on sale for this and there are some fantastic prizes including £100 cash, basket of wine and many gifts from local shops. Make sure of your chance to win. Afternoon teas will be available after this with children’s activities from 2pm. The Festival closes on Sunday when the church buildings will be open for viewing between 1.30pm and 3.30pm and afternoon teas will be served.

On Monday, the Men’s Fellowship of All Saints’ Church meets in the committee room of the parish hall at 7.30pm.

Some of the children from Cleadon Village Church of England Academy will be taking part in this year’s Experience Christmas. Small groups move around the church to hear different parts of the Christmas story and to do activities connected with it and this is summed up at the end by the final group activity. The first group will visit the church on Monday with a second group coming on Tuesday.

Cleadon’s Compass Acapella together with Tyneside Ladies Acapella will give a charity concert in the Little Theatre in Saltwell View in Gateshead on Monday at 7.30pm. The concert is in aid of FACT (Fighting All Cancers Together).

Next Tuesday, All Saints’ parish hall will resound to the music of the Customs House Big Band, starting at 7.30pm. The band has been visiting the parish hall annually around this time and they help to set off the Christmas season with their wonderful music. Their vocalist, Ruth Lambert, will feature as well as all of the individual instrumentalists who play so well and with such enjoyment. Tickets are available at £5, which includes refreshments from 5363346 .

Carols around the Christmas Tree takes place also next Tuesday at 6.30pm whatever the weather. There will be a brass band, mince pies, and a collection will be taken for St Clare’s Hospice. The Britannia (Toby) Inn provides hot soup afterwards.

Tickets are on sale now for a January Jig, a sequence tea dance in All Saints’ parish hall on Wednesday, January 6 from 1.30pm until 4pm. Admission is £2 which includes afternoon tea and tickets are available by ringing 5363346.

A Weight Watchers class takes place on Mondays at 6.30pm in Cleadon Village Church of England Academy on Boldon Lane. If you are hoping to lose a few pounds for the party season you will get great help and support here. Just come along to a session.

The Friday Day Club continues to meet in All Saints’ parish hall every Friday from 11.15am for coffee followed by a 12.30pm two course lunch. The club is open to everyone and transport may be available if necessary, but call 5362837 if you would like to go, for catering purposes.

The Dokan Karate Club has started new sessions on Thursdays from 5pm for juniors and 7pm for adults in All Saints’ parish hall. Beginners are welcome at all classes and the group boasts the best junior competition squad in England.

The Coffee Pop-in is open every weekday in the Old Schoolroom from 10am until noon. You can call in for coffee or other beverages and snacks or just to have a chat with friends. You may be passing while out walking or just need to while away the time while waiting for a bus. You will be given a warm welcome. However, please note that the facility is closed after December 16 until January 4, as the room is used for other purposes.
