DOZENS of pensioners will be given the chance to learn more about the internet.
Getting to grips with the web, communicating and shopping online are just some of the topics to be covered during a Silver Surfer session held by social housing provider Home Group.
Staff from Home Prime, the old people’s division of Home Group, will hold the event at Magdalene Court sheltered housing complex in Tempest Road, Seaham, on Thursday, from 10am to 3pm.
Sessions are being held as part of Race On-Line, a campaign to get some of the 8.4million people in the UK who have never used the internet online.
They will help complete novices as well as laptop owners who want to get the most out of their computer.
Fiona Lowrey, from Home Group’s information systems department, said: “Whenever we have held these sessions in the past they have been a great success. The older people who have taken part have all said how easy it was to learn a new skill.”
Tracey Irving, scheme manager, said that although the session are mainly for residents of Magdalene Court, there are a few places available for other people aged 55 or over who would like to take part.
Anyone interested should contact Tracey on 07834 656557.
