Chris Addison of The Thick of It brings his show to the North East
Award-winning funny man Chris Addison is set to get audiences across the North East laughing out loud as part of his 40-date stand-up show. KATY WHEELER finds out more.
Werther's Originals and Ginsters are the key to keeping your energy levels up on a 40-date tour of the country, according to Chris Addison.
The star of BBC Two's Bafta-winning comedy The Thick of It swears by them and will, no doubt, be fully stocked up on his favourite snacks as he takes his unique brand of comedy to audiences the length and breadth of Britain.
Fresh from appearing alongside James Gandolfini and Peter Capaldi in Armando Iannucci's British Comedy Award-winning In The Loop, he is embarking on his first new stand up show since 2005's Perrier Award-nominated Atomicity.
"I'm really excited to be going back out on the road," he said.
"I've got a packet of Werther's Originals in the glovebox, a voucher for 20p off any non-meat Ginsters product purchased at Welcome Break service stations before the end of February, a flask of Bovril and a whole bunch of new jokes and stories.
"Now, if I can just work out how to get this Sat Nav to stop giving instructions in Danish I'll be all set."
Tonight he is set to impress crowds at Whitley Bay Playhouse, with stints at Durham Gala Theatre and Newcastle Theatre Royal tomorrow and next month.
The shows herald the start of a busy year for the Manchester-born comedian, who can also be heard hosting 7 Day Sunday, a new live topical show on BBC Radio 5 Live.
He is also set to appear in a new series of hit Channel 4 show Skins.
In the meantime, the tour sees Chris return to the stand-up that made his name and promises his trademark mix of daftness, whimsy, jokes, lies, smartarsery and flapping about.
A multi-talented performer, Chris is also familiar to audiences from appearances on shows such as Live at the Apollo, Have I Got News For You, Tonight with Jonathan Ross and his own BBC Two sitcom Lab Rats.
As a live performer he has taken five solo shows to the Edinburgh Fringe (two of which saw him nominated for the Perrier Award).
Chris will be at the Durham Gala Theatre tomorrow, Tel: 332 4040, and the Theatre Royal, Newcastle, on March 21, Tel: 08448 11 21 21.
