THREE schoolchildren were rescued by firefighters after a prank went wrong.

Two boys and a girl became stuck on the roof of an electricity substation behind shops in Allendale Road, Farringdon, last night.

The trio – aged 11 or 12 – used a supermarket trolley to help them scale the two-metre (7ft) fences around the station.

But after they became trapped, their screams for help alerted passers-by, who called the emergency services.

A fire crew from Sunderland Central Station used two sets of ladders to get into the station and rescued the distressed youngsters shortly after 8pm.

The three children were taken home by police, who spoke to their parents.
