TWO children were rescued by firefighters after falling from a swing at Castle Eden Dene at Blackhall.

Fire crews from Peterlee and Newton Aycliffe were called to help a girl and a boy, who had fallen into a ditch, at about 5pm on Tuesday.

The boy suffered minor injuries, while the girl was treated for shock by fire service personnel, who were stood down at 6.10pm.

Meanwhile, coastguard officials and paramedics were sent to help a schoolboy who got his leg trapped in barbed wire on a beach.

Hartlepool Coastguard members helped rescue a 14-year-old boy who got trapped while walking in the dunes at Crimdon Dene.

An adult is said to have raised the alarm around 3.50pm on Wednesday.

The coastguard team helped paramedics to free the boy, before seeing him into an ambulance.

A spokesman for Humber Coastguard said: “We helped the ambulance service to free a child from the beach and into the ambulance after his leg got stuck in some barbed wire.”

The rescue took around half an hour.
