Child-eating giants descend on Whitley Bay

If child-eating giants and breaking wind in front of the Queen is your idea of fun, then you may well have the mental subtlety of an eight-year-old. And that's no bad thing.

Let's be honest, there's nothing kids (and the secret child inside of us all) like better than being scared witless by malevolent giants and giggling at toilet humour.

Roald Dahl's classic BFG (for the few that don't know, it stands for Big Friendly Giant) throws monster portions of both into his tale of a young girl who befriends a dream-stealing giant.

Adapted for the stage by David Woods, a veteran Dahl adaptor, the tale brings to life the child-chomping giants like Bonecrusher, Bloodbottler and the Meatdripper.

They and their like stalk the earth devouring boys and girls with impunity. The BFG however has rejected their ways and lives instead on a diet of the disgusting snozzcumber vegetable and the wind-inducing frobscottle brew.

While the unfriendly giants eat children, the BFG catches dreams and blows them into children's bedrooms.

When he is spotted by a young girl called Sophie, the pair become friends and hatch a plot to rid the world of the unfriendly giants.

The newly-revamped Whitley Bay Playhouse plays host to this family show that has won rave reviews wherever it has been shown.
