THREE Sunderland charities are celebrating after public votes secured them a share of £1,000 from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.
The team at the High Street branch launched its Charity Choices initiative in June by choosing good causes to receive a cash boost.
The chosen three charities were put to a vote, with customers and members of the public invited into the branch to vote for their favourite
The results saw £500 go to St Benedict’s Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care to the people of Sunderland.
Also, £300 went to Grace House, which will provide support for sick children, their siblings and parents, and offering respite and terminal care.
And £200 went to the British Red Cross, which provided short-term loans of medical equipment, such as wheelchairs, for people with a disability or illness.
