A TWO-CAR collision caused traffic chaos across Sunderland.
The A19 was closed to traffic near the A1231 sliproad yesterday after two cars collided on the northbound carriageway at about 5.55pm.
The southbound carriageway reopened shortly after the incident, but the northbound remained closed until after 8pm when the cars were cleared off the road.
There were no reports of any major injuries.
The accident caused heavy traffic build-up across the city throughout the evening.
Elsewhere, a 64-year-old woman had to be cut free from a car after a two-vehicle smash in Bramwell Road, Hendon, at about 3.45pm,
Firefighters used cutting equipment to remove the roof and release the passenger, who was travelling in a Nissan Micra.
She was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment. The 40-year-old driver managed to get out unaided.
