DISABLED people are being helped to ensure they are aware of changes and a potential price hike for blue badges.
Reforms were announced by the Government to improve the scheme and tackle misuse of badges, which allow people with mobility problems to park closer to their destination.
From January, badges will have a new design and additional security features.
Blue badges will also be issued by a national service rather than through local authorities, which currently carry out the task.
The Government has also raised the maximum fee people can be charged for badges to £10.
Durham County Council is currently working with service user groups to keep them informed of the changes and gather their views on proposals for an increased charge in the county.
