BIKE riding supremo Danny Butler is preparing to show off his skills this weekend.
The champion rider is bringing his Extreme Mountain Bike Show to Herrington Country Park to help celebrate the launch of a new “cycle hub”.
The pedal-powered performance is just part of a free family-friendly day of fun planned for Saturday, between 10am and 2pm, to kick start a programme of cycling activities at Herrington Hub, situated in the park.
Charity Sustrans and Sunderland City Council are working in partnership on the Hub project, which provides a base for biking activities throughout the summer and beyond, including family rides and confidence-building sessions for all ages.
Saturday’s event will see led cycle rides, a nature trail, bike-related arts and crafts and a smoothie bike, as well as information stalls on cycling and other health topics.
Herrington Hub will complement the work Sustrans does which focuses on getting people to travel more on bike, foot or public transport.
Sam Laing, Sustrans school officer, said: “It’s going to be a fantastic day with something for the whole family. We have a programme of activities planned over the summer with the aim of getting more people out and about on their bikes.
