As well as celebrating the five decades of helping the community, it will also showcase activities on offer.
The celebrations will officially be launched on Saturday by the Mayor and Mayoress, Coun Barry and Carol Curran, and will feature a display by the Birtley Grenadiers, live music, dance displays and a trip down memory lane.
It will be followed by a night of music from 8pm, with band After Hours.
The centre, in Fell Road, Springwell Village, is a registered charity and operates on a not-for-profit basis.
It has more than 100 volunteers who provide a wide range of clubs and activities for all ages, from toddlers to pensioners.
Jean Dickinson, from the management committee, said: “Organising the anniversary celebrations has made us reflect on our past – it hasn’t always been plain sailing.
“Funding is always an issue for organisations like ours and we’ve had some tough times, but the volunteers and the community have always rallied around and supported us through thick and thin.”
The 50th anniversary has been made possible with the help of local businesses, community groups and volunteers.
Events next week include: a tea dance on Monday, a family fun day from 11am-2pm on Tuesday and a Gap Group Party from 10am-noon on Friday.
