A THERAPIST who has provided specialist treatment at a hospice for six years has been praised for her “down to earth, caring, and reassuring” manner.

Chris Hepples, who works for the Lifespan Complementary organisation at St Benedict’s Hospice in Sunderland, is the latest nomination for our Best of Health awards.

A grateful patient nominated Chris and said: “She is remarkably effective and very impressive. Well, well worth recognition for the work she does.”

And when she was told of the news, Chris said: “That is lovely. People are really grateful for everything that we try and do for them.

“They are so kind and so grateful that it makes my job an absolute pleasure. I really love my job.”

Chris has worked in complementary therapy for 18 years and most of her role at the hospice in St Benedict’s Way, Ryhope, is providing therapy for people with life-limiting conditions.

But she also works with staff and carers and offers treatments such as hypnotherapy, Reiki therapy and massage.

Job satisfaction for Chris comes from “seeing people visibly relax and smile at the end of the therapy, and making their day just a little bit brighter.”

The nomination for her added: “A session in her care is extraordinarily difficult to describe – nothing seems to happen and yet one emerges bizarrely calmed and yet energised.”

Chris is one of an impressive number of entries which we have already received in this year’s Best of Health awards. We want more.

It’s easy to nominate and you can do it either by using the form on this page or by going online. Feel free to put forward as many of your favourite health workers as you think deserve honours.

All entries must be received by March 20. After that, a panel of judges will meet around a week later to begin the difficult task of narrowing down the field. They will draw up a shortlist in each of our categories.

And all those who make it to the shortlist will be invited to the finals at the Stadium of Light on April 16.
