Little Oliver Talbot is hitting the streets on a brand-new scooter after taking third place in our Dear Santa competition.

The eight-year-old, of Grangetown, impressed our judges after caring for his mum Caroline Wooton over the past year as she battled health problems.

Kind-hearted Oliver has now been rewarded with the £100 Super Stunt Scooter courtesy of Cycle World, which has branches in Sunderland city centre and Chester-le-Street.

Caroline, 30, said of her son, who attends Grangetown Primary School: “He is over the moon that he’s won.

“He thought he’d only been given a selection box at first.

“When I told he’d won the scooter he was so excited. He’s a credit to us and the nicest little boy you could ever wish to meet.

“I’ve been really, really poorly at times during the past year.

“I’ve been in hospital a few times and even had to have surgery, but Oliver has been so well behaved and has helped out around the house as much as he can.
“For an eight-year-old he’s been absolutely super.”
