A CARDINAL who accompanied Pope Benedict on his recent visit to the UK will visit Durham next week.
Cardinal Peter Turkson, who is president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, will present this year’s Bishop Dunn Memorial Lecture at Durham University, on the subject of global justice and the economic crisis.
The cardinal is visiting the UK as the joint guest of the university’s UK-leading Centre for Catholic Studies and Catholic aid agency, Cafod.
The free lecture will take place at St Cuthbert’s Church, in Durham, on Thursday at 7.30pm. Tickets are required.
The cardinal will also visit St Leonard’s RC School and talk to students from Catholic schools throughout the region.
On Friday, March 11, the cardinal will lead a seminar discussion with postgraduate students of the Centre for Catholic Studies on the text of his lecture.
Anne-Marie Hanlon, Cafod’s manager for Durham, said: “It’s a real honour to welcome Cardinal Turkson to Durham for this prestigious event and to hear him speak on a matter so close to our hearts.”
